To the south of San Pedro the sheltered Mar Menor (the small sea) is 170 square kilometres in area and the largest lagoon of Europe. The water more of a large lagoon than a sea the water temperature never falls below 18ºC and is calm practically all year round. The sandy beaches and shallow waters provide safe bathing for young and old alike. This unique inland sea is also ideal for for the many marinas and clubs teaching a wide variety of watersports.
