Why Costa Blanca & Costa Cálida?

The southern Costa Blanca from Alicante in the north, to La Manga at Costa Cálida in the south has been described by the World Health Organisation as having the healthiest environment in Europe. With over 300 days of sunshine a year and an average winter daytime temperature of 18ºC the “White Coast” & the "Hot Coast" offer the ideal climate for healthy year around living. The surrounding mountain ranges from Alicante down to Murcia and on to Cartagena enclose a fertile plain, where the winters are spring-like and the spring and the autumns are summer-like, a welcome change from northern Europe!

Our Coasts are just 2.5 hours flying time from the UK and well served by several national as well as budget airlines. With currently 2 international airports, Alicante and San Javier, and a 3^rd, one, Corvera (Murcia), to open in 2011, we will beyond doubt provide one of the easiest accessed holiday areas in the whole world, with all 3 airports within a 45 minute drive from Viking-Homes Office!

From modern cosmopolitan towns to Small villages time has passed by, this Costa-line having something to suit everyone. Alicante, Murcia and Cartagena have department stores and designer shops to satisfy the most discerning shopper. With art galleries, museums, theatres, cinemas, clubs, casinos and restaurants these centres cater for all tastes and keep every member of the family fully occupied whatever their age.

The ancient Carthiginian, Greek, Roman, Arab and Moorish influences have left a rich tapestry and exciting mix of cultures both architectural and gastronomic. Alicante, Elche, Orihuela and Cartagena all have a fascinating history and a wide range of architectural sites and historical buildings just waiting for you to explore and enjoy. The Phoenicians being among the first visitors, founding cities on the Spanish coastline 1000 years B.C.

A short drive inland will bring you to old Spanish villages where agriculture predominates and the pace of life slows down. Modern avenues give way to dusty streets and the local bar-restaurant is the centre of village life, ideal for meeting friends and passing the time of day with local produce and wine.

To the south of San Pedro the sheltered Mar Menor (the small sea) is 170 square kilometres in area and the largest lagoon of Europe. The water more of a large lagoon than a sea the water temperature never falls below 18ºC and is calm practically all year round. The sandy beaches and shallow waters provide safe bathing for young and old alike. This unique inland sea is also ideal for for the many marinas and clubs teaching a wide variety of watersports.
